initially, Ironside is the kind of character that leaves a lasting impression, but not in a good way. He’s ruthless and power-hungry, driven by his own ambitions without much care for the people around him. From the moment we meet him, it’s clear that he’s not one to play by the rules. He’ll do whatever it takes to get what he wants, even if it means stepping over others.
One of the main things that stand out about Ironside is his sheer determination. This guy doesn’t give up easily. Whether it’s hunting down Percival or going after a greater prize, he pushes forward relentlessly. But what’s scary about him isn’t just his perseverance. It’s that he doesn’t seem to have any moral boundaries. He’ll betray anyone, even his own family, if it means getting closer to his goal.
That said, Ironside isn’t just a one-dimensional villain. He’s complicated. His actions often come from deep pain and a twisted sense of duty. At times, you can almost sense that, under all the cruelty, there’s something more. Maybe he believes he’s doing the right thing in his own, dark way. But it’s hard to see through his endless stream of ruthless behavior.
His relationship with Diodora shows this different side of him. Ironside is a devoted father. He loves Diodora deeply and would do anything to protect him. This love softens his otherwise tough exterior. It gives him a human touch and makes him relatable.
Goals
Ironside has one main goal: to protect Camelot. He’s extremely loyal to King Arthur and believes in the vision for a strong, peaceful kingdom. But there’s more to it. Ironside’s loved ones live in Camelot. His son, Diodora, is his biggest reason for fighting.
Apart from protecting Camelot, Ironside aims to eliminate the threats posed by the other Knights of the Apocalypse. He sees them as dangerous and believes defeating them will secure peace. His battles are not just about winning. They are about safeguarding his home and the future of his loved ones.
Ironside’s attack on Percival and Varghese
In the beginning of The Four Knights of the Apocalypse anime, Ironside makes a dramatic entrance. He arrives at God’s Finger, a remote haven, where Percival lives with his grandpa. Percival’s life changes forever when Ironside shows up.
Ironside, clad in his imposing armor, confronts Percival and his grandpa. He has a mission to fulfill, and he doesn’t hesitate. With a sense of duty and determination, Ironside attacks. The clash is intense. Percival’s grandpa tries to protect him, but Ironside’s power is overwhelming.
Despite his grandpa’s best efforts, Percival is no match for Ironside’s might. The fight leaves a big impact on Percival. He sees his grandpa, his protector, fall before his eyes.
Ironside even tries to kill Percival, but he doesn’t succeed. This brutal attack is a turning point for Percival. It sets him on a path of vengeance and self-discovery. Ironside’s actions leave Percival with a burning desire to fight back.
Ironside surrenders to chaos
Chapter 154 of The Four Knights of the Apocalypse was rough for Ironside. Arthur summoned him and Pallegarde for a talk. Initially, Arthur made it seem like he wanted to discuss Ironside’s disobedience to his order to avoid fighting any of the Seven Deadly Sins at all costs.
Arthur, the King of Chaos, then showed the horrible state of Worreldane, who had just fought King. This sight was enough to shake even Ironside. Ironside questioned if they should let the Seven Deadly Sins do as they please. Arthur, in a manipulative manner, answered that in his current state, they should indeed let the Sins be. To gain the power to fight them, Arthur suggested that they should abandon their human sides and submit to the power of Chaos.
Right after Arthur said that, Worreldane regenerated herself, seemingly from death, due to possessing the power of Chaos. To worsen things for Ironside, she announced that Percival was back to life. This made Ironside realize that the death of his brother-in-law, Mortlach, was partly in vain.
Arthur used this fragile moment to his advantage. He showed Ironside a hologram of Diodora, worrying him even more. Arthur then offered them the power of Chaos. To receive it, they had to abandon their human side, and Ironside had to accept it willingly. Due to his fragile state, Ironside accepted the offer.
Later, we discover that this decision caused Ironside to completely forget his own son, Diodora.
Abilities
Elemental Control: Ironside can manipulate elements like fire, water, and earth. This ability lets him launch fierce attacks and create strong defenses. Picture him summoning a wall of fire or a torrent of water. It’s impressive and intimidating.
Enhanced Strength and Speed: His physical abilities are far beyond those of regular humans. Ironside moves with incredible speed and hits with immense power.
Dark Magic: Ironside taps into dark magic. An example is when he used it to place a life spirit inside the body of a baby, thus creating Percival. However, it cost him a piece of his own life.
