Diane from the seven deadly sins

Diane belongs to the Giant Clan and is known as the Serpent’s Sin of Envy, one of the seven deadly sins that make up the main group in the series. Giants are famous for their enormous size and unmatched strength, but Diane is a bit different from the rest. While most giants love to fight and conquer, Diane dreams of a peaceful life, far from battles and violence. This softer, peace-loving nature makes her relatable and distinct from other giants in the story.

Despite her imposing size, Diane is loyal and deeply caring, especially towards her friends in the Seven Deadly Sins, including Meliodas, their captain, and King, her fellow Sin who is also the Fairy King. Her kindness and compassion shine through, making her much more than just a “muscle” character.

How Did Diane Get Her “Sin” Title?

Diane’s title, the Serpent’s Sin of Envy, comes from a misunderstanding rooted in her intense emotions. Despite her gentle nature, Diane has moments where her feelings get the best of her. In her past, there was an incident involving Meliodas, whom she admired greatly, where her jealousy got a bit out of hand. This moment was misinterpreted, and she was branded with the “Sin of Envy” title. Though the label doesn’t fully capture who she is, it reflects a part of her journey and her struggle with handling her own emotions.

Diane’s Powers and Abilities

As a giant, Diane has incredible physical strength, but that’s just the start. Her powers go beyond brute force, thanks to a special magic she possesses.

  • Creation (Earth Manipulation): Diane has a unique magic ability called Creation, which lets her control the earth. She can shape landscapes, make giant walls, and cause tremors. Her control over rocks and soil is a big part of her fighting style, and it’s a signature power of the Giant Clan.
  • Strength and Combat Skills: Like all giants, Diane’s raw physical strength is almost unmatched. She can lift and swing Gideon, a massive war hammer that’s far too big for anyone else to handle.
  • Size Alteration: Normally, Diane is giant-sized, which makes it tricky to interact with regular-sized friends. Thanks to a spell from Merlin, however, Diane can shrink down to human size when she wants, which allows her to move and connect with others more easily. Despite shrinking, she keeps her giant strength, so she’s still as powerful as ever.
  • Drole’s Dance: Later in the series, Diane learns a special dance from Drole, a former Giant King. This dance strengthens her connection to the earth and boosts her magic, helping her grow in both power and confidence.

Diane’s Backstory

Diane and King's backstory

Diane grew up among the Giant Clan, where battle and strength are valued above all else. But from a young age, Diane questioned this lifestyle. She never understood why fighting was necessary and dreamed of a life filled with peace and friendships instead. Feeling out of place in a clan that glorified warfare, she eventually left in search of a life that suited her values better.

After leaving her clan, Diane met King, the Fairy King, and they quickly formed a bond. At the time, she was dealing with amnesia and had forgotten their shared past, but King looked after her, and they became close friends. Over time, King fell in love with her, though Diane didn’t initially return his feelings, she admired Meliodas and even had a crush on him, which created a bit of a love triangle. This friendship, and her complicated feelings, became a key part of Diane’s story and her growth.

Diane’s Relationships

Diane’s relationship with King is easily the most important one in her life. King has loved Diane for a long time, charmed by her kindness and strength. But because of her amnesia, she initially forgets about their past together. Despite this, King stays by her side, protecting and caring for her, even when she’s unaware of his feelings. As Diane’s memory returns, she realizes just how much King means to her, and she eventually falls in love with him. Their love story is a central part of her character arc, showing her growth and the deep connection they share.

Diane is always there to protect Elizabeth in tough situations, and Elizabeth is supportive of Diane, offering her comfort and advice when she’s feeling insecure. Although Diane sometimes feels a bit jealous of Elizabeth’s gentle beauty and the attention she gets from Meliodas, it never gets in the way of their friendship. Diane genuinely cares for Elizabeth and values her kindness and strength.

Diane and Ban

Diane’s friendship with Ban, another member of the Seven Deadly Sins, is light-hearted and playful. Ban often teases her, but there’s a mutual respect between them. They’re both powerful fighters, and they trust each other on the battlefield. Their relationship is more casual and fun, adding some lightness to the story.

Diane and Gowther:
Diane’s interactions with Gowther, the Goat’s Sin of Lust, are complicated. Gowther’s struggle to understand emotions often leads to tension between them, especially when he manipulates her memories to explore human feelings. At one point, he erases her memories of King, which causes a lot of pain for both of them. While Diane finds Gowther’s actions confusing and sometimes frustrating, she eventually learns to accept him, understanding that he’s still learning about emotions.

Diane and the Giant Clan

Though Diane chose to leave the Giant Clan, her connection to her heritage is still strong. Her mentor, Matrona, taught her how to fight and survive, instilling skills and strength that Diane still carries. Matrona represents Diane’s roots, and while Diane chose a different path, she respects her mentor and the clan’s values, even if they aren’t her own.

Diane and Drole

Drole, a former Giant King, becomes a mentor to Diane. He teaches her the Giant King’s Dance, which deepens her connection to her powers and her heritage. This brief relationship with Drole helps Diane embrace her identity as a giant while staying true to her desire for peace. It’s a powerful reminder for her that strength doesn’t have to mean aggression, it can come from a place of protection and care.
