Tserriednich seated on his throne

Tserriednich Hui Guo Rou, the Fourth Prince of the Kakin Empire, is one of the most disturbing and dangerous characters in Hunter x Hunter. He first appears as a major antagonist during the Succession War arc, where his sharp mind, cruel nature, and incredible talent for Nen make him a truly unpredictable threat. As a high-ranking member of the Kakin royal family, his actions during the violent struggle for the throne highlight some of the darkest parts of the story.

Early Life and Background

Tserriednich is one of the 14 children of King Nasubi Hui Guo Rou. He was born to the king’s first wife, Unma, which gives him high status in the royal family. On the surface, he appears refined, with a love for art and philosophy. However, behind this cultured image lies a twisted and sadistic mind. Growing up in Kakin’s cutthroat royal court likely shaped how he views the world, turning him into someone obsessed with power and control.

As the fourth prince, Tserriednich is a key player in the Succession War, a deadly battle among Nasubi’s children to decide who will inherit the throne. His intelligence and lack of empathy make him one of the most feared participants.

Powers and Abilities

Guardian Spirit Beast

Tserriednich and his nen beast

During the blood ceremony tied to the Succession War, Tserriednich gained a Guardian Spirit Beast. This creature, made from Nen, exists to protect him and attack his enemies.

  • Appearance: The beast has a grotesque, horse-like body with human features. Its unsettling design reflects Tserriednich’s violent and sadistic nature.
  • Abilities: It uses parasitic Nen, feeding off Tserriednich’s energy to function. It can phase through objects and extend parts of its body to attack. Its full range of powers has not yet been revealed.

Precognition

Explanation of Tserriednich's nen ability
  • How It Works: By closing his eyes and activating Zetsu, he can see ten seconds into the future. This happens instantly in his mind, allowing him to plan his actions before anything unfolds in reality.
  • Illusions and Advantage: Once he opens his eyes, his foresight plays out as an illusion for others to see, while Tserriednich himself is free to act differently. This ability makes him almost impossible to predict in battle.

Nen Mastery

Tserriednich’s talent for Nen is extraordinary, setting him apart as a rare prodigy.

  • Basic Techniques: He quickly mastered the core Nen abilities like Ten, Ren, and Zetsu. These allow him to strengthen his aura, conceal it completely, or enhance his physical attacks and defenses.
  • Rapid Progress: Tserriednich picked up these skills in just a few days, something that usually takes months or even years. His bodyguard and teacher, Theta, was horrified by how unnaturally fast he learned.

Secondary Nen Beast

In addition to his Spirit Beast, Tserriednich’s aura automatically creates another Nen creature. This secondary beast shows how massive his aura is and hints at even greater potential. However, little is known about its full abilities so far.

Personality and Motivations

Tserriednich is a mix of sophistication and depravity. While he can act polite and cultured, he sees most people as tools or objects. He takes pride in his collection of art, which includes grotesque trophies from his victims, showing how much he enjoys blending violence with what he considers beauty.

In the Succession War, his primary drive is to take the throne while eliminating his siblings. He also seems to enjoy the chaos and cruelty of the contest, seeing it as a chance to prove his dominance.

General Views on People

Tserriednich thoughts

Tserriednich’s worldview is shaped by his cruel and self-centered nature. He divides people into two categories: those he finds useful and those he doesn’t. He values intelligence and creativity but has no patience for what he sees as dishonesty or weakness.

Tserriednich’s Actions

  • Kurta Clan’s Scarlet Eyes: Tserriednich owns many pairs of the Scarlet Eyes stolen from the Kurta Clan, one of the rarest treasures in the Hunter x Hunter world. This atrocity fuels Kurapika’s hatred toward him and is one of the main reasons Kurapika joined the Succession War.
  • Succession War Ritual: After completing the blood ceremony, Tserriednich received his Spirit Beast and became one of the deadliest participants in the contest.
  • Theta’s Fear: Theta, his bodyguard and Nen tutor, tried to sabotage his training after seeing how quickly he was mastering Nen. However, Tserriednich’s potential far exceeded her attempts to slow him down.

Relationships

Family

Tserriednich’s relationships with his siblings are almost entirely hostile.

  • Benjamin Hui Guo Rou (First Prince): Tserriednich often mocks Benjamin, making fun of his intelligence and arrogance. This shows how much he enjoys antagonizing his siblings.
  • Halkenburg Hui Guo Rou (Ninth Prince): Halkenburg is one of the few siblings Tserriednich gets along with. Halkenburg respects Tserriednich’s intelligence, and the two occasionally share polite interactions, though this doesn’t mean Tserriednich wouldn’t kill him if necessary.
  • Other Siblings: For most of the other princes and princesses, Tserriednich has little respect. For instance, when Tubeppa (the Eighth Prince) proposes an alliance, Tserriednich sarcastically remarks, “If you’re still alive by then.”

Theta (Bodyguard)

Theta plays a key role in Tserriednich’s story. She is assigned to protect and teach him Nen, but she grows terrified of his abilities and the cruelty he hides behind his charm. Theta tries to sabotage him, but Tserriednich quickly picks up on her plans, adding tension to their already strained relationship.

Kurapika

Although Tserriednich and Kurapika haven’t interacted much, their connection runs deep. Kurapika’s quest for revenge against those who slaughtered the Kurta Clan directly ties him to Tserriednich. The Fourth Prince’s collection of Scarlet Eyes is a personal insult to Kurapika, who views him as one of his most dangerous enemies.
