In JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, few Stands leave quite as unsettling an impression as Yellow Temperance. This gooey, body-consuming Stand makes its memorable debut in Stardust Crusaders, showing up as a surprisingly tough challenge that Jotaro Kujo can’t just punch his way through. Here’s what makes Yellow Temperance such a unique threat, a look at its devious user, and how Jotaro ultimately managed to outsmart this sticky menace.
Rubber Soul
Yellow Temperance is controlled by Rubber Soul, a cocky Stand user with a twisted sense of humor and an appetite for trouble. Hired by none other than Dio, the story’s iconic villain, Rubber Soul has one goal: take out Jotaro and his crew for a big reward. Unlike some Stand users, who fight out of loyalty or belief, Rubber Soul is simply a mercenary, only out to serve himself. He’s as slimy in personality as his Stand, mocking his opponents and flaunting Yellow Temperance’s supposed “invincibility.”
Rubber Soul is the kind of villain who loves to taunt his enemies, throwing insults and boasting about his Stand’s abilities. But beneath that swagger, he’s ruthless. He’s not above using Yellow Temperance’s disgusting powers to brutal effect if it means gaining the upper hand.
Yellow Temperance
Yellow Temperance is a slimy, living sludge that consumes whatever it touches, latching on like a parasite. When Rubber Soul activates it, Yellow Temperance spreads across his body, forming a gross, gelatinous armor. This living armor shields him while doubling as a weapon, clinging to enemies and beginning to “eat” them away piece by piece.
What Yellow Temperance lacks in speed, it more than makes up for in stickiness and persistence. Once it attaches to something, it starts to slowly devour it, making it hard to shake off. Rubber Soul uses this ability to slowly wear down his targets, leaving them little room to escape from the slime’s relentless grip.
Powers and Abilities
Yellow Temperance’s abilities are both strange and frightening, making it a tricky Stand to face off against. Here’s what makes it such a formidable opponent:
- Absorbing Attacks: Trying to hit Rubber Soul? Good luck—any strike just sinks into the Stand’s slimy, jelly-like mass. This gooey armor makes him nearly immune to direct attacks, giving him a defense that’s hard to crack.
- Mimicking Flesh: Yellow Temperance isn’t just about defense. It can also imitate human flesh, letting Rubber Soul disguise himself as others. When he goes up against Jotaro, Rubber Soul even uses this trick to pose as a friend, catching Jotaro off guard before revealing his true identity.
- Consuming Flesh: Once Yellow Temperance gets hold of something, it starts “eating” away at it. This includes Jotaro’s own body and even parts of his Stand, Star Platinum. The longer it stays in contact, the more it consumes, turning it into a relentless, dangerous threat that’s almost impossible to shake.
Jotaro’s Strategy to overcome Yellow Temperance
Up against this slimy nightmare, Jotaro quickly realizes that brute force won’t work. He needs a new approach if he wants to defeat Rubber Soul. The turning point comes when Jotaro draws Rubber Soul into a position of vulnerability, relying on the surroundings and using the environment to his advantage.
By observing Yellow Temperance’s weaknesses, Jotaro figures out that while it’s tough against direct attacks, it doesn’t handle sudden environmental threats well. Jotaro defeats him once, but Rubber Soul plays dumb and tries to be a victim in the situation, even delivering useful info to Jotaro like citing J. Gail, saying he has two right hands, an important appearance description, and giving a vague yet somewhat useful description of his powers. After this, Rubber Soul pretends to get away but comes back, locking up Jotaro with Yellow Temperance. This leaves Jotaro vulnerable since Rubber Soul was using all the mass of his Stand to lock him up. When he was convinced he had won, Jotaro punched the wall of a barrier with such force that a sewer cover flew into Rubber Soul’s face because of the water pressure. Then, Rubber Soul got his well-deserved ora ora.
