Cheadle Yorkshire is one of the most respected characters in Hunter x Hunter. She’s a Triple-Star Disease Hunter, known for being incredibly smart, fair, and compassionate. As a doctor and jurist, she takes her work seriously and is always trying to do what’s best for the Hunter Association.
Cheadle is calm, thoughtful, and kind, but she’s no pushover. When things go wrong, she’s not afraid to take charge and make tough decisions. Even though she’s gentle by nature, she knows how to hold her ground, especially when it comes to protecting the integrity of the Hunter Association.
How did she become the chairwoman?
After Netero’s death, the Zodiacs meet to figure out the rules for electing the next Chairman. Cheadle plays an important part in creating fair guidelines, but Pariston Hill, the sneaky and manipulative Vice Chairman, constantly causes problems. He’s the type to twist situations to his advantage, which frustrates Cheadle and the other serious candidates.
During the election, Cheadle consistently ranks second or third in the votes, showing how much respect she has from other Hunters. However, Pariston’s charisma and shady tactics make him hard to beat. When Leorio suddenly gains popularity after punching Ging Freecss in a public debate, Cheadle makes a selfless move. She tells her supporters to vote for Leorio instead, believing he has a better chance of winning and stopping Pariston. This shows how much she cares about the Association’s future, putting its stability above her own ambitions.
In the end, Pariston wins, but surprisingly, he steps down immediately. He reveals that he never wanted the position and was just playing around. Before leaving, he hands the role over to Cheadle, trusting her to handle the responsibility. Although annoyed by his antics, Cheadle accepts the role with grace and gets to work as the new Chairwoman.
Leading the Association and Preparing for the Dark Continent
Once she becomes Chairwoman, Cheadle focuses on strengthening the Hunter Association. She’s practical and ethical, always working to make things run more smoothly. When Netero’s son, Beyond, appears and announces his plan to explore the Dark Continent, Cheadle takes charge of managing the situation. She works with the V5 nations to make sure Beyond is kept under strict control. During negotiations, she shows her no-nonsense side, setting clear limits on what he’s allowed to do.
As the leader of the Science Division, Cheadle takes the lead in planning for the dangerous expedition to the Dark Continent. She knows how risky it is, especially with the Five Great Calamities waiting out there, so she makes sure the preparations are thorough. She even changes the Hunter Exam to recruit only the most capable candidates for the trip. Recognizing their talents, she personally invites Leorio for his medical skills and Kurapika for his sharp thinking. Her approach brings together the right people for such a dangerous mission.
When the expedition begins aboard the Black Whale, Cheadle sets up a medical center on the third deck. As expected, the journey is full of challenges, including the Kakin princes’ deadly succession war, but she keeps her focus on keeping things organized and on track.
What Are Cheadle’s Powers?
- Nen Abilities: Though her Nen abilities are not heavily showcased, Cheadle’s status as a Triple-Star Hunter indicates a high level of proficiency. Her focus on research and medical expertise likely ties into her Nen capabilities, emphasizing utility over combat.
- Medical Expertise: As a Disease Hunter, Cheadle is good at diagnosing and treating illnesses, including those caused by Nen or other supernatural phenomena. This specialization is crucial during the Zodiacs’ expedition to the Dark Continent, where new diseases and biological threats abound.
